Day 116 Friday, October 14, 2022
Paris Landing State Park Buchanan Tennessee to Cuba Landing Anchorage
A check for fog and a 6:30am radio call and we set off thinking that there wasn't any fog. WRONG! As soon as we passed under the bridge at Paris Landing we encountered thick fog. Luckily it was light out but we had to pick our way for quite a while. I was happy that it was clearing when we met a tow.
We would be traveling to Cuba Landing Marina; they didn't have slips available for us so we would be using the anchorage next to it. We have been searching for autumn color but have been disappointed so far.
There is an eagle family that lives near this cypress tree.
With the dry conditions we have seen mostly shades of brown.
We arrived at Cuba Landing at 1:30pm, a 7 hour cruise. The marina is in tough shape; we were glad to be anchoring instead. The anchorage had quite a bit of room but was shallow with a lot of sticks and debris. We rafted with The Grand Wazoo while Phil-N-Wild rafted with Arion.
Day 117 Saturday, October 15, 2022
Cuba Landing MM115 to Swallow Bluff Anchorage MM167.5
Underway at 6:40am for another 7 hour day, this time with no fog. The anchorage was very muddy so it took a little effort to clean the anchor but we were grateful for a good hold during the night. We did swing a bit.
Not many tows, but there sure was a lot of fishing boats. It felt like there must have been some kind of fishing tournament -- they were everywhere! We worried about our wake but they certainly didn't worry about theirs...
The shoreline is definitely different with high bluffs, stone and not as much "beach". Water depths have been affected but still don't seem as much as they were on the Mississippi.
We anchored in 15 feet of water, this time rafted to Arion with 7 boats in the anchorage - Arion, The Grand Wazoo, Phil-N-Wild, Ultima, Eider, Sea Clef and us. Ultima had trouble deploying their anchor so Joe and Danny went to help them. Arlene and Al invited us to join them for Mexican lasagna -- very good! We provided the Blue Lagoon Margaritas. We had fun learning a new card game called 7's. Fun night, good food.
