Day 136 & 137 November 3 -4, 2022

 Day 136 Thursday November 3, 2022

Columbus Marina, Columbus Mississippi  MM335

After our short and restful day yesterday it was time to get things done.   A trip with the courtesy car meant a stop at Kroger for groceries, Walmart and even Michael's.  Jerry was our chauffeur --he went to the liquor store.  Errands finished we headed back to the boats.  Al and Joe stayed behind to wash their boats.  Now it was our turn for boat chores.  I did laundry while Jerry washed Eric's Inheritance.

The highlight of the day was another trip into town.  We could only have the courtesy car for 2 hours so we had to make the most of it.  We made a quick stop at the Columbus Convention & Visitor Bureau.  It is located in renowned playwright Tennessee Williams birthplace home.  From there we enjoyed Chinese food and of course, ice cream.

Day 137 Friday November 4, 2022

Columbus Marina MM335 to Lower Cooks Bend Anchorage MM277

From Columbus Marina we would travel through 2 more locks - Stennis Lock and Tom Bevill Lock.  Patriot volunteered to contact the lock.  Stennis Lock is only 0.3 miles away from the marina so it is important to contact them to avoid waiting and possibly being in the way of a tow.   Seven boats went through the lock together: Arion, Grand Wazoo, Patriot, Encore, Hazy L'il Thing, Mini Kip'sAhoy and us.

Offloading a barge using a crane.

The egrets are opportunists -- eating the fish that get trapped in the doors of the lock.

We had to anchor to the side of the Tom Bevill lock while we waited for a tow to come through.  The sailboat Pelican rafted to us in the lock.  They have traveled without a mast since they could not make it under many of the bridges along the way.  Is it possible that they need to plan ahead even more than we do?  I can't imagine figuring out where to ship the mast and then get it stepped back up (put back on).

 The scenery is changing.

I think these markers are off station!                        Need to make a call?

We anchored in Lower Cooks Bend off the Tenn-Tom. Spiedies and corn on the cob for dinner and a nice chat with Dad.  It was a good ending to a 9 1/2 hour day.

Tomorrow we head to Kingfisher Bay Marina in Demopolis Alabama.
