Day 19 July 8th 2022

We left Clayton at 8:45am to the promise of sunny skies and gentle breezes. Lake Ontario was promised to be 1-2 foot waves and actually behaved as predicted.  5 hour ETA to Sackets Harbor, Navy Point Marina.  We actually had waves of 1 foot or less and arrived at 1:30.

Sackets Harbor is a quaint little town with lots of Revolutionary War history.  Dad tells me that soldiers from Plattsburgh, NY were sent here to help defend against the British across Lake Ontario in Kingston, ON, CA.

Shortly after we arrived we were met by Bill Farrington, the AGLCA Harbor Host.  An AGCLA Harbor Host is a volunteer who acts as an ambassador for an area along the Loop. Most are boaters, some have completed the Loop while others want to.  ALL harbor hosts are friendly, personable, helpful and passionate about community.

Bill introduced himself and immediately asked if there was anything we needed.  How did he know that Jerry had been on hold for 15 minutes trying to get through to Enterprise Car Rental?  Bill is a frequent Enterprise customer and got right through to customer service.  In no time Jerry had a car reserved for Saturday!  Enterprise doesn't bring the car on the weekend so Bill offered to bring us there tomorrow.  So very generous.  Tomorrow we will pick up our refurbished props in Brewerton.

Bill also filled us in on the town of Sackets Harbor -- what to see, where to eat, what's going on in town.  He invited us to the Marina Tiki Hut for happy hour and to a tasting on Saturday!  Sounds like we'll have fun while we're here.

We met 2 other couples at Happy Hour doing the Loop. Bill and Nita, from Isle of Palms SC, have been doing their loop since 2017.  They have been doing parts of it each year, taking their time in areas they enjoy.  They plan to finish it this year but friends are taking bets against it! Mary and Joe are from Milton Delaware.  This is their first boat; they have been looping for 1 month.  We enjoyed a nice dinner and conversation with them at a local Italian restaurant, Goodfellas, and then ice cream of course.

We are planning to travel with them both on Sunday to Kingston, Ontario, Canada.  We have reservations at Confederation Basin.
