Day 22 & 23 July 11 and 12, 2022

July 11

First full day in Kingston,  After we moved our boat in the morning (to the other side of the same finger dock!!) we checked with the marina to extend our stay an additional day due to weather predicted  tomorrow.  Nothing available at that time but check back at 2pm.

We opted for the city Trolley Tour to help us get more acquainted with the city.  Lots of historical limestone architecture. Traveled around town, through Queens College, women's and men's penitentiaries (now both closed), Martellos, and Fort Henry, the current site of the Military Academy.

Then 15 minute walk to the Metro Supermarket for groceries.  Scored some of Canada's famous butter tarts.  Buttery, pastry tart shell with pecan or raisin filling.  We got the raisin and have enjoyed them.  We will have to compare with the next bakery we find.

Score -- we can stay an additional day.  Weather is making others cancel their arrivals!  Groceries put away we struggle with internet access trying to figure it out.  Lots of wi-fi available but can't seem to connect.  Maybe it's a Canada thing.....

Off to dinner we meet Bill and Nita doing the same.  We wander the area to see what appeals to us all.  We ended up at Olivea. Italian, very yummy.  We always seem to get plenty of food so always have leftovers.  We continued our visit on their boat along with Joe and Mary.

July 12

Today was laundry day.  I had forgotten how boring laundry can be and how long it can take when so many others have the same idea; $3 per load and only 4 machines.  Two hours later my 2 loads were done.  Free tour of City Hall was next.  Kingston was once the capital of Canada.   City Hall had many lives.  Not only the capital it served as a jail, college for female medical students, boarding house, church, jail among others.  It now serves as city offices and conducts city business.  You can still visit the jail cells in the basement.

Dinner on the boat -- steaks on the grill.  Spent the evening verifying the weather and plotting our course to Hallowell Mills Cove on Picton Bay, Lake Ontario.  It will be our first anchorage on the Loop.
