Technical difficulties prevented me from publishing yesterday's post yesterday. SIGH.... I am trying to stay on top of this but Jerry reminded me that there will be times when we won't have sufficient Wi-Fi to be able to post. Friends and family are eager to follow us so I will do my best.
Today was another day in Clayton NY. The marina here is nice, very protected from freighter and boat traffic, and very close to the town. Many of the homes here have signs with the date they were built. We saw several 1890's and even an 1850!
Today we took Clayton Island Tours and cruised the St. Lawrence River to Heart Island and Boldt Castle. We had visited there many years ago with our our own boat.
The Boathouse |
The NYS Bridge Authority now owns it and has invested $66 million dollars on renovations and restoration. Not yet complete, the refurbished areas now include furniture and artifacts from the Boldt family. Truly amazing the amount of work that has been accomplished.
We enjoyed the boat ride as well, cruising on both the US and Canadian waters checking out the islands and learning the history of the beautiful homes.
We took a hike through the town stopping at Ace Hardware (more like a general store), 1000 Island River Rat Cheese. then to dinner at The Hops Spot, known for their beer selection, burgers and poutine.
Off to Sackets Harbor tomorrow. Our props have been repaired and we need to arrange a rental from there to go pick then up at Winter Harbor.

That’s Rock Island
We did not get to stop at the Lighthouse, we were on the tour boat at the time. I agree, it is a nice little lighthouse.
