Day 20 July 9, 2022

WOW, Day 20.

Hard to believe we are approaching 3 weeks already.  Today was another eventful day.  We met Bill and headed to Watertown (15min ride) to pick up our rental car at Enterprise.  Another 55 miles to Winter Harbor Marina to pick up our spare props.  Mission accomplished.

Since we had the car we headed to Wal-Mart to buy some walkie talkies and milk.  We decided it would be a good idea to be able to communicate while under way if one of us was in the flybridge and the other below in the cabin.  How would we know if one of us fell overboard or just wanted a water??

Once done we headed back to Navy Point to drop the props off. We returned the rental to Watertown and got an Uber back to the marina  but not before we made a detour to the Military Cemetery nearby.

Memorial and grave of Brigadere General Pike and unknown soldiers killed in the Battle of York Upper Canada 1813

The fence surrounding the cemetery was a gift from The Queen of England to Ulysses Grant (?), intended to go around the US capital.  He knew that the military base at Sackets Harbor was in need.  The fence now surrounds the military cemetery.
Later we explored the Sackets Harbor Battleground located right next to the marina.  So much history.

Plans to Kingston tomorrow require check and recheck of all the weather sources to make the safest and most comfortable crossing.  We met with Bill, Nita, Mary and Joe to discuss departure times.  Winds will be building as the day progresses so an early start is prudent.  Captains will meet at 7am to discuss.

Post Script:  Lack of internet access prevented me from downloading pictures and posting this until today.  Lots has happened since Sackets Harbor, including crossing Lake Ontario to Kingston and then on to Trenton Ontario.  I promise, more to follow.  HOPEFULLY,  internet issues have been overcome, at least for now!

A great adventure that you won’t forget. When you mentioned the fort it reminded me that I want to go to fort Oswego this summer. Need to get cracking on that.
