Day 46, August 5, 2022

Day 46 Friday August 5, 2022

Bad River Anchorage to Killarney Mountain Lodge Marina, Killarney Ontario

As our friend James said, we are traveling from “France to Ireland”.  A 7:30 start, it was our turn to be the lead boat.  We pulled anchor and headed back out to the Lake. We traveled about 9 miles (about 1.5 hours) of open water then into Beaverstone Bay and on to

Collins Inlet.  Collins Inlet is 14 miles of narrow and scenic waterway described by many as the most scenic area on Georgian Bay.

The land on each side was forest and pink granite walls with an occasional camp.  Very remote, feeling like we were traveling through a fjord.

From Collins Inlet we crossed a few more miles of Lake Huron.

Red Rock Point Light was a welcome sight – almost at our destination of Killarney Mountain Lodge Marina.   As we turned into Killarney Channel the water suddenly became an emerald blue-green color, as if we were in the Emerald Isle!

Killarney Mountain Lodge is actually a hotel/resort and marina with room for over 30 transient boats.  Red Adirondack chairs dot the property and docks inviting you to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Handy's Lunch is Killarney!

The marina is a popular stop for loopers.  It is conveniently located from Lake Huron and offers restaurants, fuel, pump out, pool, gym, and is a short walk to ice cream and Herbert’s Fisheries.  Herbert’s was a must visit but 1st we organized a “Rocktails” for all the loopers at the marina.

Twenty boaters joined to share their experiences while sitting in the red chairs on the rocks.  It is always fun to hear their stories.

Fish at Herbert’s was flour dredged and pan fried; Henry’s was batter dipped and deep fried.   We liked the food better at Herbert’s but the atmosphere at Henry’s was definitely better.  Desert was maple walnut butter tarts from the Gateway Bakery.

Herbert's Fisheries

This is for our Snug Harbor friends -- the rubber duck lives on and is apparently native to Canada!!
