Day 49 August 8, 2022
Killarney Mountain Lodge to Little Current, Ontario
We left Killarney at 7:45. A very grey day with rain promised for about 2pm. We should be tied to the Little Current Town Docks well before then. This morning the wind was minimal and our ride to Little Current was pleasant.
Our chief concern was timing our arrival. Little Current is known for it's 100 year old swing bridge. At 18 feet air clearance we would normally be able to cruise underneath it without problem. After our "adventure" going under the bridge at Parry Sound we were less than confident that we could clear this bridge. Consultation with the marina told us that the water levels were high and we were looking at only 16 feet. That meant we needed to wait for the bridge to open.
Little Current bridge opens at the top of the hour. It takes 6 minutes to open, stays open for 3 minutes and then takes another 6 minutes to close. As the bridge tender told Jerry "she's an old girl and she moves slow". We needed to time our arrival so that we wouldn't be waiting for the bridge. Easier said than done. We had calculated that we would be 4 minutes late for the 10am opening so Jerry slowed down.. Looks like our original arrival would have been fine because the bridge needs 6 minutes to open. We ended up circling for 30 minutes waiting and that's when it started to rain.... another arrival at the docks in pouring down rain. Thank goodness for dock hands.
Check out the raindrops on the windshield.
It continued to rain so we waited to plug the boat in and register. Finally stopped, we walked to the grocery store, checked out a few shops and joined 6 other looper boats for docktails. Cold and damp.
The sunset shining on Little Current Bridge.
Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for dinner to help warm us up. Janet and Russ joined us on our boat and we introduced them to Blue Chair Bay Key Lime Rum.
Too late for any route planning so first thing tomorrow! Hopefully heading to Kagawong Municipal Marina.
