Day 50 Tuesday August 9, 2022

 Tuesday August 9, 2022

Little Current Town Docks to Kagawong, ON

Today had a rough start.   Rough from the sense that we hadn't really planned where we were going to go.  We had asked other boaters where they were headed but hadn't really had a "crew" meeting to discuss our options.  Now it was decision time.  We decided on Kagawong Municipal Marina -- not too far away and a few things to see and do in town.  Unfortunately, my call to check on space available yielded a "sorry, we don't have any room".  Now What?  NO plan B if you really hadn't planned an A....

New plan A -- consider extending our stay 1 day and do a tour boat cruise of Baie Finn and Topaz Lake area. Plan B - call Gore Bay Marina.  They might have room and only a 4 hour trip from Little Current.  Tour boat was out; 8 hour tour was leaving in 15 minutes.  I called Gore Bay and made a 2 night reservation.

As we cruised on to Gore Bay Jerry tried calling Kagawong again.  Rang and rang until a prompt came to enter an access code.  That can't be right so we looked up the town office number to see if the marina phones were out.  They sent a message to the marina and the marina called us back.  Persistence resulted in us getting a spot on "the wall" at Kagawong!!  Now I had to change our reservation at Gore Bay to 1 night the following day....

We left Little Current at 11:10 and arrived in Kagawong at 1:25.  We quickly settled the boat and headed off to do some exploring.

We started at the Old Mill Heritage Museum.  Formerly a pulp mill and then a hydroelectric plant the mill is now the town offices, a museum and an art gallery.  We enjoyed the museum and learned about the pulp mill and local history.

From the museum we hiked to Bridal Veil Falls.  Not really a hike, actually about a 1/2 mile walk.  Bridal Veil Falls is a naturally occurring waterfall.  Visitors can swim and even walk behind the waterfall.  The falls are really neat and the hike pleasant. Lots of visitors were appreciating the cool water and views.

We took a different path back and were surprised to find art sculptures along the way.

Looks like fairies live in the woods.

Later that evening we attended a free concert on the lawn at the museum with Janet, Russ, Laura and Joe.  Very talented banjo and guitar player did a guest appearance and accompanied the scheduled talent.  Nice way to end a fun and busy day.
