Day 51 August 10, 2022

Day 51 Wednesday August 10, 2022

Kagawong Municipal Marina to Gore Bay, ON

Wednesday's plan was for a short cruise to Gore Bay, only about 2.5 hours away.  This meant a leisurely start to the day and an opportunity to enjoy a bit more of the town.  Wednesday morning meant the local farmer's market.  Not expecting much, but hoping for some fresh produce, we were pleasantly surprised.

First, we met the Dockmaster Jim, who had arranged for us to get a spot on the wall.  We thanked him for accommodating us, especially since it was his day off.  Tied to the wall.

We were commenting to him that we weren't able to visit the Anglican Church next door due to renovations and he said "no problem".  Dave, the carpenter, has keys and could let us in.  What a treat!  St John the Evangelist Anglican Church was once a warehouse for a store across the street.  It was dedicated as a church in 1938 and was a true community effort to renovate and get to that point.

Known as "The Sailors' Church" it is decorated in a nautical theme, including a pulpit made from the bow of a boat.  Construction materials came from the wreck of a small boat in the bay.  The pulpit is dedicated to the 4 people who died in the tragedy.

The market hosted about 50 different vendors from crafts and clothing to homemade baked goods and fresh veggies.  Held next to the museum (where the concert was last night) it was a quick walk.  We scored some vegetables and then headed to the Chocolate factory next door.  It was closed the day before so we made sure to stop in.  We did NOT leave empty handed.

Once our shopping was done we left for Gore Bay Marina.  We were traveling with The Grand Wazoo and Tug Bussle and arrived at 2pm.  It was a good travel day -- sunny and no rain (yeah!).  Our slip neighbor is a 2004 Mainship 400 from Michigan.  They spend several weeks in the area each summer and shared some insight about places to visit when we are in Michigan.

We checked out Split Rail Brewing for beers and then went to dinner with our friends at Bouy's Eatery.  Had to try the Key Lime Pie.  Everyone agreed it was worth the indulgence.  Back to the boat we caught up with Eric and Courtney.  Great to here what's going on at home.

Tomorrow on to Blind River, Ontario.

What a great blessing to get to visit the Church. Glad you're enjoying some "leisure" time too. We'll catch up soon. It'll be great to hear from you. Love, Gary & Kathy 🥰
