Day 64 Tuesday August 23, 2022
Last day in Charlevoix
Bad day for us. Jerry woke with a headache, cough, chills and congestion. Time to test -- Covid 19 results are positive for both of us. Oh happy day.... please note the sarcasm. We walked to the local Urigcare (hospital emergency room) to confirm the results of our home tests. I came out negative but Jerry was a definite positive. BIG bummer.
We spent the rest of the day on the boat and notified all of our recent contacts. A boat is a great place for self isolation but not really much fun. AND we need to figure out how we handle all this for his 5 days of isolation.
Day 65 Wednesday August 24, 2022
Charlevoix to Northport, MI
Early 7:25am start to make the bridge opening. Jerry is not feeling the best but hung in long enough to get the boat out of the slip and into open water. I drove the boat (really more like babysat the autopilot) until we were just outside the marina in Northport. Jerry tried to rest while I drove; he was there for moral support if I needed him. Luckily it was a relatively smooth ride with waves 1 foot or less.
We left Charlevoix with The Grand Wazoo but they split off and went deep into Grand Traverse Bay all the way to Traverse City.
We couldn't get into the marina there so we reserved in Northport. Just as well with Jerry sick. We arrived at 11:15 -- only a 3 hour 45minute ride. Traverse City would have been at least 2 hours more.
Jerry spent the rest of the day in relative misery, especially when he learned that our friend Laura tested positive too. Hopefully tomorrow would be better.
Day 66 Thursday August 25, 2022
Northport, MI
We laid low while Jerry tried to rest. I cleaned while he rested. Beautiful day, I took a walk off the docks and checked out the small park located at the marina. Looks like a quaint little town, if only we could explore it. Plan for Friday is to move on to Leland for 2 days.
Private residence next to the marina.
Day 67 Friday August 26, 2022
Northport, MI to nowhere
Okay, weather check is less than favorable. Winds 1-3 feet on the beam, definitely not comfortable. Jerry feeling a bit worse so we decided to stay put. We extended our stay here and moved our Leland reservation to Saturday.
Well, since we're here, maybe I could adventure a little bit. The Farmers' Market is held each Friday at the Marina park. Lucky me, I checked it out. I snagged some corn, beans, Michigan raclette cheese, and some yummy baked goods. Laundry next.
The park also hosts "Music in the Park" Friday evenings in the summer. People had already claimed their spot in the morning. We listened from the boat.
Weather looks favorable for travel in the morning but not good from Monday through Friday due to very high winds. We will probably be stuck in Leland for the week -- opportunity to rest and wash the boat.
